Jesus 2nd Coming
by punkofnice infull disclosure, i am an atheist/slight agnostic and really don't believe in god/s.. however, i do find solace in a good evensong at the cathedral.
because one of my kids came with me, it has inspired him to become a christian and hence got baptised in a uk high church (anglican cum catholic hybrid).. so, i take him to visit different places eg, ely cathedral.
he likes me to accompany him to his new church.

The below information is the predominate timeline agreed to by most evangelicals. It is copied from gotguestions.org. About 2 years ago, I conducted a study of Revelation using material from a number of highly regarded sources with wide authority and it is identical. This is literal, premillinnial format. There are basically three different views of Revelation. All cannot be true. The literal, premillinnial is the predominate view in non-Catholic (and high-church) Christianity and was the most widely held position of the early church fathers prior to Augustine.
I still have the study workbook (Compiled by an accounting Phd. professor friend of mine) complete with charts and references. He has taught the course several times. He and I spent a year tweaking it and making it more understandable for someone with a JW background. If anyone is interested, message me and I will email to you.
Chapters 1-3 bring us up to the present time. The church is not seen in Revelation after chapter 3.
Revelation Timeline (starting with Ch. 4):
1. The rapture of the church. Christ comes in the clouds to “snatch away” all those who trust in Him (1 Corinthians 15:52). At this same time, the “dead in Christ” will be resurrected and taken to heaven, too. From our perspective today, this is the next event in the eschatological timeline. The rapture is imminent; no other biblical prophecy needs to be fulfilled before the rapture happens.
2. The rise of the Antichrist. After the church is taken out of the way (2 Thessalonians 2:7–8), a satanically empowered man will gain worldwide control with promises of peace (Revelation 13:1; Daniel 9:27). He will be aided by another man, called the false prophet, who heads up a religious system that requires worship of the Antichrist (Revelation 19:20).
3. The tribulation. A period of seven years in which God’s judgment is poured out on sinful humanity (Revelation 6–16). The Antichrist’s rise to power is associated with this time period. During the tribulation on earth, the Church will be in heaven. It is thought that at this time the Judgment Seat of Christ and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb will occur in heaven (2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 19:6–10).
4. The Battle of Gog and Magog. In the first part of the tribulation, a great army from the north, in alliance with several other countries from the Middle East and Africa, attacks Israel and is defeated by God’s supernatural intervention (Ezekiel 38–39). (Some commentators place this battle just before the start of the tribulation.)
5. The abomination of desolation. At the midway point of the seven-year tribulation, the Antichrist breaks his covenant with Israel and shows his true colors. The Jews are scattered, and many of them turn to the Lord, realizing that Jesus is their Savior. A great persecution breaks out against all those who believe in Christ (Daniel 12:11; Mark 13:14; Revelation 12:17).
6. The Battle of Armageddon. At the end of the tribulation, Jesus returns with the armies of heaven (Mark 14:62). He saves Jerusalem from annihilation and defeats the armies of the nations fighting under the banner of the Antichrist (Revelation 19:11–21). The Antichrist and the false prophet are captured and thrown alive into the lake of fire (Revelation 19:20).
7. The judgment of the nations. Christ will judge the survivors of the tribulation, separating the righteous from the wicked as “sheep” and “goats” (Matthew 25:31–46). (It is thought that at this time the Old Testament saints will be raised from the dead.) The righteous will enter the Millennial Kingdom; the wicked will be cast into hell.
8. The binding of Satan. Satan will be bound and held in a bottomless pit for the next 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1–3).
9. The Millennial Kingdom. Jesus Himself will rule the world, and Jerusalem will be the capital. This will be a 1,000-year period of peace and prosperity on earth (Revelation 20; Isaiah 60–62). Memorial sacrifices will be offered in a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem (Ezekiel 40–48).
10. The last battle. At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan will be released from his prison for a short time. He will deceive the nations once again, and there will be a rebellion against the Lord that will be quickly defeated (Revelation 20:7–10). Satan will be cast into the lake of fire, never to reappear.
11. The Great White Throne Judgment. All those in hell will be brought forth (resurrected in their own bodies), and all the wicked from all eras of history will be resurrected to stand before God in a final judgment (Revelation 20:11–15). Unlike those "in Christ", they are then judged by their own works. Verdicts are read, and all of sinful humanity is cast into the lake of fire.
12. The new creation. God completely remakes the heavens and the earth. We will see it happen. It is at this time that God wipes away all tears and there will be no more pain, death, or sorrow. The New Jerusalem descends from heaven, and the children of God will enjoy eternity with Him (Revelation 21–22). -

The (Shunned) Woman at the Well

this unknown shunned woman of ill-repute was specifically sought out and chosen by jesus.

Abraham married his sister
Half sister or more probably his neice.
A master could have sex with his slaves and captured women —all morally acceptable.
If he married them, or cared for them for life as a concubine.
Neither was the case with this Samaritan woman. She was simply living with a man not her husband after 5 failed marriages which put her at the bottom for most any ANE society.... as it would even today in most instances.
I am quite sure that she did not start out in life with the goal to be married five times and then shack up with a man. For whatever reason, this is how she ended up. And, it is to this woman that Jesus first openly revealed who he was. She was lost, in many ways. And, Jesus found her.
No where in the NT bible are people told they must first clean up their life, study a WT publication, answer nearly 100 questions and be active in field service in order to trust Jesus and be saved. Belief is the only requirement.
But, works are important, just not for your salvation. Works are simply outward indications of internal belief. In the bible, works folllow belief not the other way around. JW's and their converts are more comparable to the Pharisees and their folllowers than to Jesus' followers who simply believed him.I can't stop the tears that flow every time I see this woman liberated by Christ. Because you see, that was me
Me too VH.

Also, JC saw in her virtues that qualified her for repentance and salvation.
Fisherman,
It is hard to understand how you could conclude this. The point of the account is that this woman didn't have any virtues. She didn't qualify for anything really. She was at the bottom of society and yet, not only did Jesus seek her out, he openly identified himself as the long foretold Messiah for the first to this woman. An unbelievable honor.
"Many first shall be last, and the last first."
It's called grace. -

A woman who had five husbands and living with a man who is not her husband would be looked upon by many as "problematic" to say the least.... even in most communities today, let alone a small community in the ancient near east.
She was alone at the well, in the heat of the day.... after the other women had already been there and got their chatting done. People do this in offices today. It's called water cooler chat. Not much has changed.
This historical account proves that God seeks out such people, in spite of their moral bankrupcy. Folks like this woman are in a unique position to experience the height of god's pure love, as seen from far below.
It is a very tender portrait of God's character.
Maybe the RULES say to shun them, but Jesus showed us there would be some reasons to "break" the rules.
I agree DOC. This is totally in line with one of Jesus' teaching about another particular law:
And he said unto them, "The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath" - Jesus
Of course, the concept of God's Grace is far from JW thinking and practice.... thank God.

I see a man contemplating following Jesus alone after disobediently following men for half his life.
Will he take the plunge? -

Happy (Substitution) Resurrection Sunday !
by Sea Breeze inwhy is the substitution atonement hidden under piles of nonsense in wt literature?
the bottom line is that those who join the the wt as adults, found a religion that agrees with their personality and nature.
yes, they will say jesus makes it possible, but each jw gets to individually take credit for their own salvation.

The WT governing body members claim to have the heavenly hope, to be anointed ones, to be in the new covenant, and to have Christ as their mediator. According to scripture, are they thus saved?
I don't think so for many reasons. But, this reason has to be one of the top:
"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." Gal. 1: 8-9The GB preaches a two-tier salvation - one with the new covenant and one without. This is a different gospel than what the apostles preached.
But woe unto you...for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. - Jesus -

Yes, they will say Jesus makes it possible, but each JW gets to individually take credit for their own salvation. They are that good in their own mind. And, if you don't get it just right, you get to be resurrected and get a "do over". Nevermind that
scriptures says :
1."by the works of the law shall no man be justified"2. "do not put your trust in mere men"
3. There is no such thing as new light, like the two-tier salvation that WT promotes. Christian doctrine was fixed when the last apostle died. - Read Gal. 1: 8-9
4. "it is appointed unto man once to die and then judgement" - Hebrews 9: 27
The simple good news is that Jesus took the punisment due YOU and me (not Adam like the WT says).Is. 53 says: But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Here's the legal exchange in NT scripture:For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Cor. 5: 21
Foreshadowed by:
"And Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the iniquities of the people of Israel, and all their transgressions, all their sins. And he shall put them (your sins) on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness (where he will surely be torn to pieces by wild anaimals) - Lev. 16
The bottom line is that Jesus wants' to be your scapegoat (your Substitute) just like pictured in the OT.... if you let him into your heart. Today is a good day to get saved.
My post-JW position is: If you don't want to accept Christianity, fine. At least know what it is that you are rejecting. The WT seeks to take away this choice through deception. But Jesus, want's you to get off scott-free for every wrong thing you have ever done, no elders meetings, no field circus, no works at all.
